Shompa HaiShompa Hai is a PhD student with the School of Planning. She has academic training in architecture, landscape architecture and planning. Shompa has been engaged in teaching (Seneca College and York University) and practice in Toronto for more than 15 years. Her multidisciplinary approach has led to a wide variety of community building projects, master planning, and landscape habitat restoration initiatives. Shompa designed and implemented Bedford Park School Playground project that has received Platinum award from Toronto District School Board’s Eco school program. The steel staircase structure on the Seaton trail was designed by Shompa and it has been recognized by the Conservation Ontario’s Innovation Design Award. Shompa’s master plan for the Valley Park Middle School playground has been recognized by the Ontario Minister’s Award of Environmental Excellence for its contribution to the Province’s air and water.
Sompa’s education includes Master of Landscape Architecture, University of Toronto; Master in Environmental Studies, York University, Toronto; Bachelor of Architecture, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka.Her past and present professional engagements include General Manager, Trans Canada Trail Ontario; Director, Hai Design Studio Ltd.; Landscape Design Project Manager, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority; and research assistant and design collaborator with Professor Michael Hough. Shompa’s doctoral research interest areas are habitat conservation, climate change, landscape ecology, cultural heritage and regional identity. Her PhD Co-Supervisor is Dr. Pierre Filion. |
